Adlington Community Centre plans for the future

The centre, built over 100 years ago, recently had an energy survey carried out by the Community Council of Lancashire. This survey expressed concern about the future viability of the centre, due to ever increasing utility costs.

The Committee decided that the best way to reduce our electricity bills was to investigate the benefits of fitting solar panels, and, after receiving many quotations, we chose Solar King of Eccleston to install a 10 kw system comprising of 39 x 250 watt panels, on our rear, south facing, roof.

55% of the installation cost was met from a grant from the Lancashire Environmental Fund, which is a partnership between SITA UK Ltd, Lancashire County Council, The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside, and Neals Waste Management, together with a contribution from Lancashire County Council.

We are confident that by using 75% of the electricity generated ourselves, with 25% going back into the grid, and the money from the Feed in Tariff that we will more than cover the current electricity bill of £3,000 per year.

This will help keep our hire charges attractive enough to make full use of this excellent facility.
